LHFPL tetraspan subfamily member 2 protein (LHFPL2)

The protein contains 228 amino acids for an estimated molecular weight of 24486 Da.

Plays a role in female and male fertility. Involved in distal reproductive tract development. (updated: Sept. 12, 2018)

Protein identification was indicated in the following studies:

  1. Bryk and co-workers. (2017) Quantitative Analysis of Human Red Blood Cell Proteome. J Proteome Res. 16(8), 2752-2761.

Methods

The following articles were analysed to gather the proteome content of erythrocytes.

The gene or protein list provided in the studies were processed using the ID mapping API of Uniprot in September 2018. The number of proteins identified and mapped without ambiguity in these studies is indicated below.
Only Swiss-Prot entries (reviewed) were considered for protein evidence assignation.

CLONING

By sequencing clones obtained from a size-fractionated immature myeloid cell line cDNA library, Nagase et al. (1996) cloned LHFPL2, which they designated KIAA0206. The deduced protein contains putative transmembrane domains. Northern blot analysis detected LHFPL2 expression in all tissues and cell lines examined except brain and peripheral blood leukocytes. By searching for sequences similar to LHFP (606710), Petit et al. (1999) identified LHFPL2. The deduced 193-amino acid protein shares 27% identity with LHFP.

MAPPING

By radiation hybrid and human-rodent hybrid analyses, Nagase et al. (1996) determined that the LHFPL2 gene maps to either chromosome 5 or 11. The International Radiation Hybrid Analysis Consortium mapped the LHFPL2 gene to chromosome 5 (TMAP SHGC-32444). ... More on the omim web site
