The protein contains 227 amino acids for an estimated molecular weight of 25943 Da.

 

Involved in vesicular protein trafficking, mainly in the early secretory pathway. targeting. Involved in the maintenance of the Golgi apparatus. Appears to play a role in the biosynthesis of secreted cargo including processing. Involved in endoplasmic reticulum stress response. CLONING

Matsuda et al. (2003) cloned TMED4, which they called clone-156, from a human lung fibroblast cDNA library. The deduced protein contains 107 amino acids.

GENE FUNCTION

Matsuda et al. (2003) found that TMED4 induced NF-kappa-B (see 164011) signaling 7-fold following expression in human embryonic kidney cells.
