Dynein regulatory complex protein 9 (IQCG)

The protein contains 443 amino acids for an estimated molecular weight of 51918 Da.

Component of the nexin-dynein regulatory complex (N-DRC), a key regulator of ciliary/flagellar motility which maintains the alignment and integrity of the distal axoneme and regulates microtubule sliding in motile axonemes. Binds calmodulin when cellular Ca(2+) levels are low and thereby contributes to the regulation of calcium and calmodulin-dependent protein kinase IV (CAMK4) activity; contributes to the regulation of CAMK4 signaling cascades. Required for normal axoneme assembly in sperm flagella, normal sperm tail formation and for male fertility. (updated: Sept. 12, 2018)

Methods

The following articles were analysed to gather the proteome content of erythrocytes.

The gene or protein list provided in the studies were processed using the ID mapping API of Uniprot in September 2018. The number of proteins identified and mapped without ambiguity in these studies is indicated below.
Only Swiss-Prot entries (reviewed) were considered for protein evidence assignation.

Iq motif-containing protein g; iqcg iqcg/nup98 fusion gene, included

CLONING

By large-scale sequencing of clones obtained from testis cDNA library, Wiemann et al. (2001) isolated IQCG, which they designated DKFZp434B227. The deduced 443-amino acid protein shares significant similarity with nematode paramyosin, suggesting it has a role in cell structure and motility.

MAPPING

By genomic sequence analysis, Wiemann et al. (2001) mapped the IQCG gene to chromosome 3q29.

CYTOGENETICS

From a de novo acute T-lymphoid/myeloid leukemia harboring t(3;11)(q29q13;p15)del(3)(q29), Pan et al. (2008) identified a fusion between the NUP98 gene (601021) and the IQCG gene. The fusion protein interacted with both NUP98 and IQCG, bound coactivators and/or corepressors, and showed transcriptional activity in vitro. However, by itself it did not appear to be sufficient to induce leukemia. ... More on the omim web site
