BolA-like protein 2 (BOLA2B)

The protein contains 86 amino acids for an estimated molecular weight of 10117 Da.

Acts as a cytosolic iron-sulfur (Fe-S) cluster assembly factor that facilitates [2Fe-2S] cluster insertion into a subset of cytosolic proteins (PubMed:26613676, PubMed:27519415). Acts together with the monothiol glutaredoxin GLRX3 (PubMed:26613676, PubMed:27519415). (updated: Nov. 22, 2017)

Methods

The following articles were analysed to gather the proteome content of erythrocytes.

The gene or protein list provided in the studies were processed using the ID mapping API of Uniprot in September 2018. The number of proteins identified and mapped without ambiguity in these studies is indicated below.
Only Swiss-Prot entries (reviewed) were considered for protein evidence assignation.

CLONING

By searching databases for sequences similar to E. coli BolA, followed by RT-PCR of total brain RNA, Zhou et al. (2008) cloned human BOLA1 (613181), BOLA2, and BOLA3 (613183). The deduced 152-amino acid BOLA2 protein has a BolA domain containing a helix-turn-helix motif near its C terminus. RT-PCR analysis detected variable BOLA2 expression in all normal human tissues examined. BOLA2 was secreted into the culture medium of transfected COS-7 cells.

BIOCHEMICAL FEATURES

Kasai et al. (2004) determined the solution structure of mouse Bola2. The overall topology is a class II KH fold, except that it lacks the well-conserved GxxG loop. The residues conserved in BolA-like proteins appeared to assemble on 1 side of the protein.

GENE STRUCTURE

Zhou et al. (2008) determined that the BOLA2 gene contains 3 coding exons.

MAPPING

Hartz (2009) mapped the BOLA2 gene to chromosome 16p11.2 based on an alignment of the BOLA2 sequence (GenBank GENBANK AF060511) with the genomic sequence (GRCh37). ... More on the omim web site
